Gou Xi Chinese Painting Print – Withered Branches Ink Monochrome

Start with the Withered Branches Ink Monochrome — everything else in this print is arranged around it, the way Gou Xi intended. The sheet you receive is the unmounted huaxin — the artwork reproduced on paper, nothing else attached. Guo Xi, of ‘Early Spring’ fame, taught the Northern Song how to paint distance.

The painter balances valley against mountains, with stream to anchor the whole — exactly what this kind of Chinese landscape art print should be. The margins hold trees, withered branches, and withered branches for the careful viewer. Kept to black ink on pale paper, it has the discipline of the monochrome tradition. The mountains have weight; the brushwork gives them weather too. Ink and paper meet the way they should: absorbed, not sitting on top.

Hang it where conversations happen; it gives people something worth discussing — a fine Chinese brush painting print. Collectors of Chinese prints will recognize the quality at a glance.
