Flower and Bird Chinese Scroll Painting – Silk Wall Art – Quails Peony

This flower and bird scroll painting is a study of the quails peony theme, patient and well observed. The ink settles into the silk with a softness that keeps every edge gentle. As a piece of ink wash painting, it reads clearly from across the room and keeps giving on closer inspection.

The peony adds a quiet accent, handled in the old manner of the brush. With the quails, the scene gains a lived-in quality that rewards slow looking. The brushwork has the ease of long practice and the care of a first attempt. There is an unhurried rhythm to the brushwork that sets the tone of the whole piece. The painter's hand is visible in the best way: present, then gone.

For a home leaning toward classical chinese artwork, this scroll is a natural fit. Placed well, it anchors a room without dominating it. It rewards a wall with a little empty space around it.
